Interview with Chris Pepus – Against Class Bigotry Podcast

Higher education is supposed to be about bettering ourselves. If the pursuit of knowledge is so noble, why shouldn’t everyone be afforded that opportunity, regardless of class status? This egalitarian concept is completely at odds with how the universities in our country are actually run. Working class applicants are continually discriminated against at elite collages, while the rich legacy students with poor academics are welcomed under the guise of “tradition.”

Last month, Chris resigned from his position as a film archivist at Washington University in St. Louis, a school with abysmal economic diversity. We discuss its impact, the New York Times’ classist condescension towards him, and ways we can challenge class warfare in higher education.

It's a hefty file, so it may take some time to download to your computer. To play the file without downloading (it depends on your computer's configuration for playing music files), just click it. Your media player should recognize what to do with an mp3. (If it doesn't, you're on your own.)
